Sedation Dentistry for Children

What to Expect On
Your First Visit

The initial visit to our office will be a consult appointment. During that consult, we will go over the patient’s medical history in extensive detail in order to determine the most proper form of anesthesia for the patient. We will then discuss all of the options with the parent(s), in great detail, in order to make certain that everyone is on the same page prior to scheduling the surgery date. Then we will schedule the surgery, perform all of the necessary dentistry in one visit, and then refer the patient back to their primary dental office for routine dental follow-ups.

What to Expect at your
Sedation Appointment
(Surgery Date)

After the initial consult, if everyone agrees with the treatment plan, we will schedule the surgery date.

If you have chosen “in-office IV Sedation”, then we will see you at the same office for the next visit. At that time, Dr. Fink (a pediatric anesthesiologist) will be providing the anesthesia in our office. On that day we will also provide nurses and paramedics for added personnel and increased safety during the surgery. All of your child’s dental needs will be completed in one easy visit, while he/she sleeps. You will then stay together in a recovery room for a brief period of time, and then you will go home that same day. All instructions will be given to the parents both before and after surgery.

If you have chosen to complete your child’s surgery in an outpatient surgical center, then we will see you “downstairs.” Our office is located directly above the surgery center for West Boca Medical. The surgery center will then provide all nurses and anesthesia (all of whom work with us on a daily basis and are Fantastic!). All of your child’s dental needs will be completed in one easy visit, while he/she sleeps. You will then stay in a recovery room for a brief period of time, and then you will go home that same day. All instructions will be given to the parents both before and after the surgery.
